tm:stands for Typographic Masonry. Richard used this name from 2002 until 2006. The work from this period is often modularly built up from graphical elements, including typefaces (of his own design). From the jacket blurb of the Chinese book: “Niessen’s magnificent design leads us to the other end of the evaluation system of graphic design. He builds up his own castle by means of structure, typeface, colour, paper, printing, and binding.”
