in·between:based on the theory by Martin Buber, architect Aldo van Eyck wrote: “to establish the ‘inbetween’ is to reconcile conflicting polarities. Provide the place where they can interchange and you re-establish the original dual phenomena.” Searching for a common ground in their work Niessen & de Vries saw a resemblance in this humanistic view. Realizing that a lot of design is like “the glove that fits all hands, and therefore becomes no hand” (Van Eyck), they are always looking for a comprehensive approach where different aspects can meet and unite. This poster, made for their exhibition in Istanbul in spring 2013 was made to explore and illustrate this view. |
